Jennifer Yu-Jen Lin

Jennifer is a Ph.D. candidate in the Molecular and Cell Biology program at UC Berkeley. Her research focuses on identifying causal variants for newborns with severe undiagnosed diseases using genomics and transcriptomics, with the ultimate goal of deploying a global genetic disease diagnosis network to help patients with rare genetic disorders. In addition to her academic pursuits, as a VP of BATBA, Jennifer is committed to supporting the development of biotechnology within the Taiwanese community. Jennifer also serves as the president of the Berkeley Association of Taiwanese Students (BATS) for the 2022-2023 academic year, where she is passionate about promoting cultural exchange and building community among Taiwanese students at UC Berkeley and beyond. Outside of her research and leadership responsibilities, Jennifer enjoys painting, dancing, and playing tennis.

Kuo-Feng is a virologist who has extensive experience in studying viral pathogenesis and developing new treatments for viral infections. He has led research projects on EV-A71 infection, RNA biology, protein biology, antiviral discovery, and in-vivo model establishment. He has also worked on DENV and HCV infections and published 20+ papers. He has recently made novel discoveries on the translation of neuronal circular RNAs and the link between B cell activities and EV-A71 pathogenesis.

Dr. Chang received his M.D. degree from the National Defense Medical Center of Taiwan in 1994, the Ph.D. degree from the Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, National Defense Medical Center of Taiwan, in 2015. He serviced in the airborne troop as a military medical officer (1994~1996). He was trained in general Obstetrics and Gynecology (1996~2001) and Gynecologic Oncology (2006~2012) in Tri-Service General Hospital (TSGH), Taiwan, and be an accredited Gynecologic Oncologist in 2012. In 2003, he went to Chattanooga Women Laser and Endoscopic Center, TN, U.S.A., with Dr. C-Y Liu, the Past President of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, to train him laparoscopic female pelvic floor reconstruction. In 2004, he also moved to Sunnyvale, CA, U.S.A., to train da Vinci robotic surgery and completed the first robotic gynecologic surgery in Taiwan in the following year. He has fully authorized to work in the US (green card holder) since Jul-2021, and completed Drug and Medical Device Development: A Strategic Approach at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Jan-2022.

I apply mouse genetics and computational biology approaches (single-cell RNA seq) to study how sirtuins affect hematopoietic stem cell aging.

He then moved to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine for his postdoctoral training, utilizing CRISPR/Cas9 technologies to investigate the roles of cell polarity proteins in cell growth and cell survival.
